Laramie, Wy – Many Laramie residents are likely happy New Year’s Day falls on Friday, allowing for people with the federal holiday off work to extend their mini-vacations through the weekend. However, those extra days off mean extra work for law enforcement agencies looking to combat impaired driving.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol, Laramie Police Department, University of Wyoming Police Department and the Albany County Sheriff’s Office plan to have an increased presence of law enforcement officials patrolling roads throughout the holiday weekend to curb unsafe driving practices and if necessary, write citations and make arrests.

In a unique approach to weaving education and enforcement, the Highway Patrol is conducting a public safety campaign using platforms that could reach a wider and potentially younger audience: Facebook and Twitter. Hoping to prevent impaired driving and encouraging safe driving habits, troopers plan to post information such as location and the nature of violations as it happens with arrests and traffic stops during the holiday weekend with the hashtag #DoNotGetHashtaggedByWHP.
