Skyline Products, a leading developer, manufacturer and provider of ITS-Grade™ dynamic message sign (DMS) solutions, has been selected once again to supply DMS units for the Wyoming Department of Transportation's (WYDOT) sophisticated rural interstate advanced traveler information system (ATIS). The signs for this project will be used primarily for weather- and incident-related advisory messages.

The large-scale, Skyline Products™ LED DMS systems will be positioned both overhead and on the roadside of both east- and westbound directions of Interstate 80 near the East and West Green River Interchanges. Located on this stretch of freeway are a tunnel and a particularly troublesome area in adverse winter conditions for motorists. The WYDOT District Office will use the remote DMS to display the appropriate advisory messages based on data gathered by automated weather stations and web cameras.

This installation is part of a larger project to make improvements to the Green River tunnels on I-80 and the East Green River Interchange. WYDOT expects work to begin as soon as the weather allows in the spring. The entire project is expected to be completed by October 31, 2003.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation recently let to contract the installation of a bridge ice warning system, which will be installed on a railroad overpass bridge deck on US 30 in Nugget Canyon in the western part of the state.  This system will consist of ice sensors and vehicle monitors in both directions of travel on the bridge deck, advance automatic warning signs, and radio communication links between the bridge system and the signs.  Additionally, this location is being evaluated to determine the best method of sending the ice information from Nugget Canyon into the Department's Wyoming Roads system.  This project is scheduled for completion by late winter or early spring 2002.
